The facts are as clear as they are alarming: Russia targeted election systems in all 50 states during the 2016 presidential election, and there are ongoing efforts – from Russian and other global powers – to do so again in 2020.
This most serious attack by a foreign government on our democracy was happily welcomed by President Trump. He’s proven to the American people that he cannot be trusted to put their well-being and the health of our democracy above his own political gain.
That’s why I’m fighting as hard as ever to pass the Duty to Report Act – a bipartisan bill that would guard our elections from foreign interference. But Mitch McConnell is actively working to block this crucial legislation that would secure our democracy. So at this critical moment in our country’s history, I need to know where you stand: Do you think Congress should immediately take action to protect our democracy from being sabotaged by foreign powers?
Special Counsel Mueller’s testimony last month only reiterated the breathtaking account of criminal misconduct and unethical behavior outlined in his report:
- The Trump campaign sold out our democracy by happily accepting Russian interference in the 2016 election.
- President Trump himself tried to obstruct Mueller’s investigation by lying to the American people and asking others to lie for him.
- The President tried repeatedly to fire the Special Counsel and only relented after his staff refused.
Special Counsel Mueller emphasized that this type of attack continues daily – not only from the Russians, but from other hostile actors as well. Sadly, personally slandering Mueller and his team continues to seem more important to President Trump’s cronies than facing the damning facts and reality – our democracy is under attack by foreign powers.
That’s why I won’t let up in the fight to hold President Trump accountable and safeguard our elections against further interference by passing the Duty to Report Act. But right now, it couldn’t be more important for me to hear where you stand.
