Firey but Mostly Peaceful
Are we in for Summer 2020 all over again? Time will tell.

Leftist violence has erupted <[link removed]> across the country, with the latest riot leading to an ICE involved shooting in Minneapolis that left the aggressor dead. The Left's continued escalation of political violence against law enforcement has now cost someone their life <[link removed]>.

Earlier this week, an apparent Leftist agitator blocked ICE agents from carrying out their duties in Minneapolis with her car. After ICE approached her, she then allegedly aimed her car at an ICE officer and hit the gas — at which point the officer shot in self-defense.

This incident is among a series of confrontations and unrest <[link removed]> across the country reminiscent of some of the other left-wing inspired movements. What’s more concerning is that these are not random. The people behind this are a shadowy network of Leftist allies backed by George Soros and other Democrat financiers <[link removed]>.

Unless Congress wakes up, our streets will never be safe from this kind of violence. President Trump has already indicated that he is interested in pursuing charges against the financiers behind the Antifa Network, but to be successful he needs Congress to pass the Stop FUNDERS Act (S.2376 / H.R. 4620) and allow federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) charges to be brought forward.

KEY VOTE: “NO” on Obamacare Expansion
Obamacare is the Left’s socialist albatross. The skyrocketing premiums and deductibles <[link removed]> that we see today in the Obamacare exchanges were the fully predictable outcome of the destructive system Democrats created. That’s why this week Heritage Action issued two Key Votes opposing Democrats’ 3-year expansion of COVID-era Obamacare subsidies.

You might be asking yourself, “Why is the Republican-controlled Congress voting on Democrats’ Obamacare subsidies to begin with? Hasn’t it been a conservative priority for over a decade to repeal Obamacare?”
Well, a handful of House Republicans joined Democrats in signing a discharge petition to bypass the Republican majority (elected by the will of the people) to force a vote on the extending Biden-era Obamacare subsidies. Through this little-known mechanism Democrats have figured out that they can advance their agenda when not in power, and moderate Republicans are all too happy to be their accomplices.

If conservatives want to retain power in the next Congress, they need Republicans in this Congress to focus on achieving wins for the American people — and quick.

Read more on how this played out, and see how your Member of Congress voted on both Key Votes:

-

KEY VOTE: “NO” On Motion to Discharge the Jeffries / McGovern Rule to Consider Democrats’ Shell Bill <[link removed]>

-

KEY VOTE: “NO” on Expansion of COVID-Era Obamacare Subsidies <[link removed]>

The Senate already voted in December and rejected expanding Obamacare subsidies. They should continue to hold the line. The American people deserve real health care solutions.
Save the SAVE Act
This week, President Trump called on the Senate to pass the SAVE Act (S.128 <[link removed]>), a Heritage Action-endorsed bill that would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. The SAVE Act passed the House last April and is awaiting action in the Senate.

Despite no longer leading Senate Republicans, Mitch McConnell is still exerting control through his role as Chairman of the Rules Committee.

That is a big problem.
He has used his position to stall the SAVE Act despite strong support from President Trump and the rest of the Senate GOP. Thirty three Republican Senators <[link removed]> have cosponsored the bill, yet he has yet to hold any hearings to advance it.

Saving America by Saving the Family
One of Heritage’s four cornerstones <[link removed]> guiding our mission is the American family. Our vision is to restore the natural family—virtuous, faithful, and growing—to the center of American life. Right now, the country faces a crisis of low marriage rates, a low fertility rate, and an epidemic of broken homes. Without strong families, America cannot survive.

In that spirit, The Heritage Foundation has released Saving America by Saving the Family <[link removed]>, the first in a new series of reports outlining a bold conservative plan to rebuild and strengthen the family.

This report doesn’t mince words or offer half-measures. It calls on government to end marriage penalties, support families who want to build a life together, and restore the American Dream for parents and children alike. If we want a Golden Age for America, it starts at home. This blueprint offers bold solutions for family renewal because saving families will save the country. Let us know which recommendation you’d most like to see implemented!
