Republicans are out-raising Democrats in the key state legislative races in the Sun Belt that'll transform the political landscape for the next decade.

Friends,

My latest op-ed with our Campaigns Director, Ethan Roeder, gets straight to the point:

“As the election enters its final months, the races most in need of financial support — and where every extra dollar makes the biggest impact — are those many forget about altogether: state legislative races.”

As we wrote in Business Insider, campaigns for the top of the ticket are flush with cash today. The number of people who donate to campaigns is at a record high, but there is a point of diminishing returns for these races that are raising millions upon millions.

We cannot be focused on just retaking the White House and U.S. Senate this November—not when state legislatures will redraw our congressional and state electoral maps in 2021 for the next decade. These key state house chambers will profoundly shape the political landscape through 2032:

“Given the commanding funding and high profile of federal-level races, investing in competitive but under-funded state legislative candidates presents a much greater value dollar for dollar...

Some of the biggest impact in the 2020 election will come from some of the most overlooked races. Money spent in these competitive down-ballot contests would allow donors to punch well above their weight.”

Republicans get it. They are vastly out-raising Democrats when it comes to key state legislative races in the Sun Belt—by as much as even 5-to-1 in our most likely pickup targets for the Florida State House. We cannot afford to cede control of the redistricting process again and face another decade of the GOP’s gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Chip in now to help us close the resource gap and support our strategic efforts to retake key state house chambers before it’s too late.

DONATE NOW

Now’s our moment to invest where it counts to reclaim and restore our democracy in November.

With gratitude,

Vicky
