John,
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is going to testify to Congress.
This is a huge opportunity that we have worked months for, and it’s critical we take full advantage of it in order to hold Amazon accountable for its bad behavior—including its massive surveillance network that spies on us in our homes and neighborhoods.
We’re doing everything we can to push Congress to ask the right questions, to make sure thousands of people watch Bezos’ testimony, and to be ready after it’s over to use the momentum to stop Amazon’s surveillance empire.
Can you chip in right now to maximize the impact of Amazon testifying before Congress?
DONATE TO TAKE DOWN AMAZON
Bezos and Amazon have already been working their connections to try to ‘wheel and deal’ this hearing in their favor. They have spent millions on an army of lobbyists and donations to Congressional campaigns to prevent any extensive investigations like this hearing.
But this hearing should be a huge turning point. You might remember when Mark Zuckerberg had to testify in front of Congress about how Facebook was abusing peoples’ data. That was a pivotal moment when our decision-makers and people around the world realized that Facebook had too much power.
We need this to be that moment for Bezos and Amazon. From this hearing on we need every action Amazon takes to be scrutinized, for lawmakers to start reining in the company’s powers, and for Amazon's monopolistic business model that crushes small businesses, destroys our communities, and subverts our democracy to start to fall apart.
This may be our only chance to have Bezos testify before Congress and the American people. And while Bezos absolutely doesn’t want to stand to account for all Amazon’s wrongdoings, it’s our job to make sure he can’t hide.
If you can, please make a quick donation right now so we can do everything we can to make this Congressional hearing the beginning of the end of Amazon’s surveillance empire.
