Friend,
I spent part of my career in uniform teaching the Law of Armed Conflict to future officers at the Air Force Academy. I made sure they understood that in the United States, we are a nation of laws, not of kings.
Right now, the disregard for that principle in Washington is reaching a breaking point.
Between the illegal and unconstitutional military seizure of leaders in Venezuela, the dangerous rhetoric treating Greenland, the territory of a NATO ally, as a piece of real estate to buy or seize by conquest, and new threats of military action against Mexico—we are witnessing a total collapse of constitutional order in our foreign policy.
Here is what every South Dakotan needs to know: The War Powers Act and Article I of the Constitution are not "suggestions."
They are the supreme law of the land. They exist to ensure that no single person can sleepwalk this country into a conflict that puts our service members at risk without the consent of the people’s representatives in Congress.
When a President threatens military action against our neighbors or ignores Congress's war powers, it demonstrates a reckless disregard of responsibility that makes the world more dangerous and our alliances more fragile.
We need serious people in Washington who actually understand the law and have the backbone to defend it. I’m asking you to send me to Washington by pitching in a few dollars to support my campaign. [ [link removed] ]
My opponent, Mike Rounds, is a senior member of the Armed Services Committee. He knows these actions violate the War Powers Act. Yet, he remains silent. He has chosen party loyalty over his oath to the Constitution.
I am running as an Independent because I don't answer to a party boss. I answer to the oath I took 26 years ago. In the Senate, I will be a voice of sanity and accountability:
* I will fight to reclaim the Senate’s Constitutional authority over war and peace.
* I will call out illegal strikes and unauthorized interventions, regardless of who is in the White House.
* I will prioritize the lives of our service members over partisan political theatre.
Will you chip in $10 or more right now to help me reach the Senate and restore the Rule of Law? [ [link removed] ]
