Hey John,

This moment demands a choice, and silence is not an option. Earlier this week in Minneapolis, my hometown, a woman was murdered by ICE in cold blood.

So we have to ask: Are we on the side of the woman who was executed by ICE in cold blood? Or are we on the side of the authoritarian force terrorizing our communities?

At Sunrise, our answer is clear. And it’s the same answer driving our organizing and our electoral work. Right now in the Twin Cities, Sunrise Movement members are organizing to stop hotels from housing ICE agents, directly challenging the infrastructure that enables this violence. That kind of organizing is how we respond. And as someone organizing here in Minneapolis, I expect nothing less from the candidates we support.

Every one of our candidates must be clear: we stand against ICE, and we will fight back against Trump-era fascism wherever it shows up. That’s exactly what our candidates are doing.

In Chicago, Illinois , Kat Abughazaleh said that if she were in Congress, she would launch a full investigation into the shooting and move to dismantle the Department of Homeland Security.

In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , Chris Rabb called on every Democrat in Congress to speak out immediately, saying: We must abolish ICE and dismantle its immigrant detention camps. There is no reform for the state-sanctioned violence ICE creates.

In Lansing, Michigan , Sunrise Movement co-founder and candidate for Congress Will Lawrence has been unequivocal: abolish ICE.

This is the kind of leadership this moment requires: clear, unapologetic, and rooted in justice. And these candidates aren’t standing alone. They are backed by a movement.

That’s what makes our electoral work different.

Our candidates are supported by people who already know their neighbors, who have already been organizing, and who will still be there long after Election Day. We’re not parachuting in for a campaign; we are building lasting power.

But if we want leaders who will stand with our communities instead of backing down, we have to help elect them.

To keep organizing on the ground and support candidates who are willing to tell the truth, we need your help. Chip in today to power this work. [[link removed]]

This is how we win, by building a future that belongs to our communities, not to the powerful few.
