Michael Reagan: ‘My adoption was treated as a celebration.’

By: Paul Batura

Michael Reagan, who died on Sunday at the age of 80, was the son of President Ronald Reagan and his first wife, Jane Wyman.

The Reagans had a daughter named Maureen, a young girl who desperately wanted a brother. The Hollywood couple would go on to adopt Michael in 1945, just three days after his birth.

It was Maureen who told her brother he was adopted, a slip that wasn’t appreciated by the parents — but a turn that allowed them to relay to him how he was chosen and not an afterthought. But it was a one-off conversation. These days, parents are encouraged to start talking about adoption with children before they even fully understand what it means. Silence can speak its own language — and the cruelty of one’s peers can take its toll.

But back in the 1950s, some of Michael’s classmates, when they learned of his origin story, teased him about being adopted. It was a difficult chapter that took its toll.

“I started to equate that if I was the illegitimate child of the Reagan family maybe that was the reason my birth mother gave me away,” he reflected. “There had to be a reason because mothers don’t give children away.”

White House Unveils New Dietary Guidelines: ‘Eat Real Food’
By: Zachary M. Mettler

The Trump administration released new dietary guidelines Wednesday, encouraging Americans to eat more protein and healthy fats, while reducing their intake of highly processed foods and added sugars.

“My message is clear: Eat real food,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at a White House press conference announcing the changes.

The announcement comes as the Department of Health and Human Service and the Department of Agriculture released the “Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030.”

The revised Guidelines, which are updated every five years, turn the well-known food pyramid — literally — upside down. It features three main food groups: Protein, Dairy and Healthy Fats; Vegetables and Fruits; and Whole Grains.

“[This is] the most significant reset of federal nutrition policy in history,” Kennedy added. “These new guidelines will revolutionize our nation’s food culture and make America healthy again.”

HHS said the Guidelines emphasize “simple, flexible guidance” based in modern nutrition science.

“We’re ending the war on saturated fats,” Kennedy added at the announcement, “And today our government declares war on added sugar.”

America’s Ongoing Battle With Cocaine Addiction
By: Emily Washburn

The Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro for helping traffic “thousands of tons” of cocaine into America over the past 25 years.

The case marks the federal government’s latest effort to disrupt cocaine trafficking to the U.S. Despite nearly four decades of public policy beating back the deadly drug, cocaine continues to kill tens of thousands of Americans every month.

At least 1.5 million people died of cocaine-related overdoses from 2020 through 2024, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The true number is likely much higher.

Though Maduro pled “not guilty” to all charges in federal court yesterday, the DOJ maintains the deposed dictator and his co-defendants profited from connecting Columbian cocaine manufacturers with the Mexican drug cartels who smuggle the drug into the U.S.

“Venezuela sits in a geographically valuable location for drug traffickers,” the indictment against Maduro reads, “with northern access to the Caribbean Sea … and western access to the mountainous regions of Columbia, where coca is grown and turned into the vast majority of the world’s cocaine supply.”

America’s Birthday Should Be a Declaration of the Right to Life
By: Rev. Frank Pavone

Red, white and blue confetti fell from the sky in Times Square, as a patriotic New Year’s Eve crystal ball came down to welcome 2026.

At the same time, the Washington Monument lit up like a giant birthday candle for America, with video projections celebrating key moments in an American history that can fittingly be described as miraculous.

As we welcomed the New Year, we have welcomed the 250th birthday of America, marked by the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

On Friday, January 23, the day of the national March for Life in Washington, DC, I will again lead the National Prayer Service in the historic and beautiful Constitution Hall, located at 1776 D St. NW, at 18th and D Streets.

The theme of this inspirational event will be In Celebration of America’s 250th Birthday — Celebrating the Right to Life as Recognized in Our Declaration of Independence.

My pro-life ministry, Priests for Life, and I are honored to be a part of the America 250 Civics Education Coalition, along with other national leaders, which is preparing for the celebration of our nation’s Semiquincentennial in 2026. The Coalition is led by the America First Policy Institute, in coordination with the U.S. Department of Education.

Colorado Pays $6.1 Million for Trying to Ban Abortion Pill Reversal
By: Zachary M. Mettler

Colorado has agreed to pay $6.1 million in attorney fees for its unconstitutional attack on abortion pill reversal that was struck down by a federal court.

The state will pay $5.4 million in attorneys fees to Becket, and another $700,000 to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

The ruling represents a significant victory in the fight for life in a notoriously pro-abortion state.

In 2023, Colorado passed a bill (SB23-109) to become the first state in the nation to ban abortion pill reversal (APR).

As reported by the Daily Citizen, the law prohibits Colorado health care providers from prescribing medication to women who change their minds after beginning a chemical abortion and want to stop the process to save their preborn baby’s life.

In a chemical abortion, a pregnant woman takes two drugs that together are called the “abortion pill” The first drug, mifepristone, kills the baby by depriving it of the essential pregnancy hormone progesterone. The second pill, misoprostol, causes the mother’s body to expel the dead baby.

If a woman has a change of heart after she takes the first pill, she may be able to reverse the abortion with abortion pill reversal. APR uses the natural hormone progesterone to reverse the abortion pill’s effects.

Incredibly, medical professionals are able to save 64-68% of pregnancies through APR.
