Email from Rep. Salazar Reporting from Washington, D.C. FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 119, Issue #30 Dear Friends / Estimados Amigos, This week marked a historic moment for freedom in our hemisphere. The capture and arraignment of Nicolás Maduro ends a brutal reign that crushed the aspirations of the Venezuelan people and opens the door to a new chapter of hope, accountability, and self-government, made possible by courageous troops and unwavering American resolve. Here at home, I remained focused on protecting families and defending freedom. From voting to extend Affordable Care Act premium tax credits for thousands of families in Florida’s 27th District, to introducing the Anti-Communism Week Act to honor victims of tyranny worldwide, this week reaffirmed a simple truth: leadership means standing up for people, liberty, and human dignity, without fear and without excuses. From Washington, D.C., to every corner of Florida’s 27th District, it is an honor to serve you. My office is here to help you and your family in any way we can. Sincerely / Atentamente, María E. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) How am I doing as your congresswoman? A TURNING POINT FOR VENEZUELA AND THE HEMISPHERE This has been a historic week: the beginning of a new chapter for Venezuela and for our hemisphere. The tyrant Nicolás Maduro, who tortured, brutalized, and crushed the aspirations of his own people, has been captured and arraigned in court. His reign of terror has come to an end. I commend the brave troops who carried out this mission with courage, precision, and honor. This is a historic moment for Miami and for the entire hemisphere. President Trump kept his word. No fear, no excuses, just the resolve to stand up to Maduro and defend freedom. We believe in free people governing themselves, and that is exactly what will happen in Venezuela. While critical steps remain to secure lasting liberty, Maduro’s capture marks a decisive turning point. The Venezuelan people’s liberation is no longer just a dream, hope is now on the horizon. PROTECTING AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE FOR FAMILIES This week, I voted YES to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits, without hesitation. I know firsthand how many families in Florida’s 27th District rely on this assistance to afford health care. Our district has one of the highest ACA enrollment rates in the nation. Without these credits, thousands of families would face higher premiums or lose coverage altogether, forcing impossible choices between care and basic necessities. Health care should never be a luxury. This vote wasn’t about politics, it was about families and protecting access to care. This isn’t partisan. It’s human. DESIGNATING ANTI-COMMUNISM WEEK TO EDUCATE FUTURE GENERATIONS This week, I introduced the "Anti-Communism Week Act,” to designate the first week of every November as Anti-Communism Week and to request an annual presidential proclamation recognizing the victims of communist regimes worldwide. The bill builds on President Trump’s 2025 Anti-Communism Week proclamation and reinforces America’s commitment to freedom, liberty, and dignity across the globe. Communism has left a trail of death, suffering, and shattered nations across the globe, from Cuba to China, from Venezuela to North Korea. Too many Americans, especially in our schools, are now dangerously unaware of the real history and real horrors behind these failed systems. That’s why I’m proud to lead the Anti-Communism Week bill, which formally designates a week when we will reaffirm America’s commitment to freedom, educate our youth about the deadly consequences of communist ideology, and honor the memory of the tens of millions who have died under it. If we lose sight of history, we risk repeating it. This week isn’t just symbolic, it’s a necessary stand for liberty and truth. You can read the full bill here. IN THE MEDIA This week, I joined national and local outlets, including The New York Times, My View with Lara Trump, WPLG with Glenna Milberg, Newsmax with Rob Finnerty to discuss the capture of Maduro and the ongoing fight for freedom in Cuba and Venezuela. I will continue using every platform available to stand up for South Florida families and defend our shared values of faith, freedom, and opportunity. AMERICA'S 250th BIRTHDAY IS HERE America’s 250th year is here! As we mark this historic milestone, we honor the ideals that shaped our nation and proved for 250 years that freedom, innovation, and self-government endure. America’s 250th birthday is officially underway 🇺🇸, and I’m honored to serve on the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission as we prepare to celebrate our independence and leadership. Throughout the year we will be hosting events around the country to mark this historic year. Happy 2026. Happy Semiquincentennial Year.
