With recent snowfall bolstering the existing snowpack across much of the state, snowmobile trails are continuing to open and conditions are improving. As the season gets underway, now is a great time to brush up on rider safety, trail etiquette, and responsible riding practices.
Before you hit the trails, please remember to:
-
Register Your Sled
Make sure your snowmobile registration is current. Renewing is fast and easy online, and registration fees go directly back into supporting and maintaining Maine’s snowmobile trail system.
-
Know Before You Go
Check with your local snowmobile club for current trail conditions. Riding too early can damage trails and jeopardize landowner access.
-
Put Safety First
Stay on marked trails, ride within your limits, and never drink and ride.

Enjoy the season—and we'll see you on the trails!

Always respect closed trail signs and remember that ATV trails are not snowmobile trails.

More than 95% of Maine’s snowmobile trails are on private property.

Ice Safety
Ice conditions vary statewide and throughout the season. Early-season ice is especially unpredictable—please use extreme caution when traveling on Maine’s waterways. And remember: if you don't know, don't go!
