John,
Reckless disregard for human life is rampant in the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants and their neighbors and supporters.
From Chicago to California, immigrants have been killed during ICE raids and traffic stops.1,2,3 And there have been at least eleven non-fatal shootings by federal agents in places around the country.4,5
The killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis is not an isolated tragedy, but part of a disturbing pattern of callous and inhumane disregard of life and law. Her death and the shockingly high number of deaths and harm inflicted in ICE detention and raids require Congress to stop negotiations on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill until careful investigations lead to Congress’ reining in the reckless tactics of Secretary Noem, ICE Acting Director Lyons, and their underlings.
Congress is negotiating government funding bills right now. Demand Congress not provide another dime of funding for the DHS and ICE inhumane and lethal tactics amidst ongoing investigations.
TAKE ACTION
In addition to deaths in ICE raids and traffic stops, last year was the deadliest year in ICE detention facilities in over 20 years, with 32 deaths in 2025.6
ICE officials and agents operate as abusers of power, reflecting the broader posture of the Trump administration itself. Immigrants―made vulnerable by design―become easy targets for this abuse, while ICE’s tactics are deliberately engineered to instill fear. Emboldened by impunity, agents commit acts of violence, confident they will not be held accountable.
So far, Congress has gone along. The Big Brutal Bill that slashed health care and nutrition programs to pay for tax cuts for the rich also funded plans to construct new, massive detention facilities designed to hold tens of thousands of people at once. These warehouse-style immigration jails will be humanitarian catastrophes. ICE’s existing facilities already subject people to medical neglect, abuse, prolonged confinement, and life-threatening conditions―and those shocking 32 deaths in the past year. Expanding this infrastructure guarantees more suffering, more deaths, and deeper trauma for families and communities.
Take action now and demand Congress stop funding DHS and ICE’s inhumane and lethal tactics amidst ongoing investigations.
As we mourn the needless death of Renee Nicole Good, thank you for taking action to hold DHS and ICE accountable.
