Friend,
This week, a beloved Memphis sandwich shop became a target, not for breaking any law, but for standing up to ICE.
Federal agents blocked their parking lot, refused to leave, and intimidated workers and customers just trying to get through their day. Governor Bill Lee and Trump’s “Memphis Safe Task Force” tried to spin it as public safety.
Let’s be honest: it wasn’t about safety. It was harassment. And the people of Memphis saw it for exactly what it was.
What’s happening here isn’t isolated, and it’s getting more dangerous.
In Minneapolis, an ICE agent killed Renee Nicole Good. A life lost. A family shattered. Another reminder of what happens when enforcement operates without accountability, transparency, or regard for human dignity.
That’s the through-line.
From Minneapolis to Memphis, unchecked power puts everyday people at risk: workers, families, small business owners, neighbors just trying to live their lives.
As your Shelby County Mayor, I will stand with our neighborhoods, our workers, and our small businesses, every single time. I will not allow federal agents or political stunts to terrorize our communities or endanger lives. Public safety means protecting people, not traumatizing them.
And let me be clear: real safety comes from investment in strong schools, universal pre-K so every child starts out with a fair shot, good jobs, accessible healthcare, and trust between government and the people it serves. Fear is not a policy. Intimidation is not leadership.
But standing up takes all of us.
If you believe everyone has the right to live.
If you believe no family should lose a loved one because power went unchecked.
If you believe local leaders should have the courage to say “not on our watch,”
I’m asking you to stand with me today.
Chip in what you can to help us build a people-powered campaign that puts humanity, accountability, and dignity first. Even $5 helps us keep organizing, speaking out, and fighting back. [[link removed]]

This is about who we protect, and who we leave behind.
I know which side I’m on.
