In case you missed it this week:
ACA Tax Credits
Republicans have controlled every lever of government for an entire year and instead of focusing on lowering costs for the American people, they have cut life-saving programs and supported policies that make life more expensive and difficult. It took the courage of four Republicans to join every single Democrat in forcing a vote to extend the ACA tax credits that help millions of Americans buy their health insurance.
As Republicans ignore the concerns of Americans and focus on supporting their billionaire donors and every boondoggle Donald Trump pursues, Democrats remain clear-eyed about our priority of helping hard-working Americans. I will continue to do everything possible to make life more affordable for you.
You can learn more about the positive impacts of extending the tax credits by reading my full press release here.
Federal Funding for El Paso and Continued Oversight of the Trump administration
I voted for three appropriations bills that invest in the critical government programs and services that support El Pasoans, put long overdue safeguards in place against the misuse of funds by the Trump Administration, and avoids catastrophic poison pills initially included by my Republican colleagues.
I’m proud to have secured five of my Community Project Funding requests. This package invests millions in El Paso for important projects like cancer research at Texas Tech El Paso, Anthony Police Department’s new mobile command post, updates to aging water infrastructure in El Paso County, and more.

Minneapolis
This week, the American people are outraged about Minneapolis, and I echo the sentiments expressed by Mayor Jacob Frey: the Department of Homeland Security is not making Americans more safe, they are doing the opposite. You can read my statement on the ICE shooting here.
Venezuela
You can read my statement about our military action in Venezuela here or watch my reaction to a briefing held by the Trump administration here.
January 6th, Five Years Later
On Tuesday, I testified at a hearing we held about January 6th titled "After January 6th: Setting the Record Straight on the Capitol Insurrection." You can watch my full testimony or read it here. I also spoke after a commemorative event later that night. You can watch that here.
Retirement of Representative Steny Hoyer
My heartfelt gratitude goes to Leader Hoyer for the decades of public service he has given our nation. He has been a voice of reason throughout increasingly partisan times, specifically during the passage of the ACA and our national response to the pandemic.
While we didn’t always agree on every issue, he was always interested in talking about our differences in a thoughtful way.
Leader Hoyer is more than a colleague or a leader in the House — he is a friend, and he will be missed.
