Entering a new chapter for Emgage:
Statement from the Emgage Board of Directors announcing the interim CEO
Dear Emgage Family,
As Emgage embarks on its 20th anniversary year dedicated to building the political power of Muslim Americans, we stand at a pivotal moment of growth and reflection. The foundation laid by our founders, strengthened by our community, and built upon by dedicated leaders like Wa’el Alzayat, has positioned us well for this next chapter.
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment [[link removed]] of Mohamed Gula as Interim Chief Executive Officer. This appointment provides continuity and steady leadership as we finalize our strategic direction for 2026.
Mohamed brings his commitment to Emgage’s mission, most recently serving as our National Director of Organizing. In that role, he directly managed core national programs including the Million Muslim Votes campaign, Emerging Leaders, building out our voter data infrastructure, and the Muslim Civic Table. His strategic vision and on-the-ground experience have been instrumental in building our organizing capacity.
His dedication to civic empowerment is rooted in a lifelong journey of service. Mohamed’s passion for the nonprofit sector began in his youth, shadowing his father in sponsoring over 200 refugee families. He honed his skills as an Organizer in Ohio for the Hillary Clinton Campaign in 2016, later joining Organizing For Action around protecting the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion. An advocate for youth empowerment, human rights, and social justice, Mohamed also contributes his leadership to the broader movement, serving on the boards of the Virginia Coalition of Immigrant Rights and The Movement Cooperative.
We are confident in Mohamed’s ability to guide Emgage with strategic clarity and a deep connection to our community during this transition. We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to continued partnership with our community.
