Dear John,
We at All* Above All are outraged at the murder of Renee Good at the hands of an ICE officer in Minneapolis this week. By now we have all watched the video showing the officer firing three shots into Good’s car at point-blank range as she was driving away. This was not self-defense. It was an execution carried out in broad daylight by a federal agent who clearly believed himself to be above the law.
Unfortunately this is the predictable and inevitable result of the fascistic agenda this regime has been advancing since the beginning, an agenda that glorifies state violence, dehumanizes targeted communities, and grants law enforcement sweeping power while stripping away accountability. When the regime frames entire groups of people as enemies, invaders, or sub-human, this is exactly where it leads.
This is far from the first death at the hands of ICE. Last September in Chicago, ICE killed Silverio Villegas Gonzalez during a traffic stop after he dropped his two sons off at school, and a month later shot Marimar Martinez, falsely claiming that she was trying to use her car as a weapon. 32 more people died inside ICE detention facilities last year, and that doesn’t account for the thousands of people deported back into dangerous, life threatening situations and torture prisons like CECOT in El Salvador.
In the wake of the killing, regime officials are demonizing Renee Good and praising her murderer. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem called Good’s action (practicing her first amendment right as a legal observer) “an act of domestic terrorism” while Vice President JD Vance said that the officer was “doing his job” and that “he deserves a debt of gratitude” for killing an innocent woman. The message being sent is unmistakable: federal agents are permitted to kill, and the state will protect them. That is what fascism looks like in practice: unchecked power, absolute impunity, and lethal force used to enforce obedience.
Earlier this week, before Good’s murder, I launched my new Substack with an article about why it is so crucial for those of us in the Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice movement to join in the fight against fascism. This event only serves as further proof. The control of our bodies, the dehumanization of our neighbors, the acceptance of clear government overreach, this is the fascists’ playbook; and unless we are willing to devote our energy fully towards stopping it, the death toll will only rise.
Now is the time for us to come together to fight this threat; our isolation is a gift to the regime. Fascism thrives when movements stay in their lanes: labor over here, environmental justice over there, reproductive rights somewhere else, racial justice siloed off on its own. Division is not a side effect—it is a strategy. The only way out is solidarity.
Tell your member of Congress that enough is enough, ICE must be abolished and its occupation of American communities must end before more of our neighbors are killed.
