Friend, it's Andrew Gounardes. Between the holidays and the Matching Funds Deadline we have coming up on Sunday, we've been very busy at Gounardes HQ.
I've talked about this with my team, but one of my New Year's Resolutions for 2026 is to give you more real-life examples of the work I'm doing in Albany to make our communities better. So, before I ask you to chip in before our next very real, very big deadline, let's walk the walk with this one:
|
In December, Gov. Hochul signed my RAISE Act into law! |
My RAISE Act is nothing more than commonsense AI Regulation. Powerful AI technology is a constant presence these days, and before this bill, we had no way to hold its creators accountable. I usually frame it like this: "Would you let car manufacturers sell vehicles without seatbelts?"
If you agree with me that the answer to that question is (obviously) no, then you agree with what the RAISE Act sets out to accomplish.
After all, ensuring powerful AI tech isn't used for harm is literally a matter of life and death, and the RAISE Act does so while also being light-touch regulation in a way that expressly doesn't stifle innovation.
However, while we all know this is common sense…some of our frequent foes disagreed.
To pass into law, my bill had to survive numerous roadblocks: A hit piece from the New York Post, an attempt by Trump to ban AI legislation nationally, and Big Tech spending Big Money lobbying Gov. Hochul to convince her not to sign.
But through hope, precision, and a little elbow grease, I made sure we delivered on this bill and got it signed for folks like you. Because that's what my work in Albany is all about.
Friend, I'm running for re-election to keep delivering more commonsense bills like the RAISE Act. Our campaign's first Matching Funds Deadline is coming up, and we need your help to reach our Goal. Can you chip in today to help us get there, while eligible donations can be matched 12x by the state?

He’s passed more than 100 bills into law, including legislation to protect kids from harmful social media algorithms, close a loophole in the state’s wage theft law, strengthen payment protections for freelance workers, expand the life-saving school zone speed camera program, guarantee family death benefits for public workers who died from Covid-19, and help secure and expand benefits for 9/11 responders.
He is working to help make college more affordable for New York students, dismantle the legal protections that allow perpetrators of workplace harassment and discrimination to prey on vulnerable workers, tackle the housing crisis by making it easier to build more affordable housing, and as a daily transit rider, fighting to improve the reliability, accessibility, and accountability of the MTA for all New Yorkers.
Andrew and his wife Melanie live in Bay Ridge, where they are raising their three children.
Andrew is a graduate of local parochial and public schools, Hunter College - CUNY, and the George Washington University Law School.
