Dear john,

I have just wrapped up my first full week back in Washington since the new year. First, I want to thank those of you who have already taken the time to engage with my office on some of the most pressing developments in current affairs since we began 2026. Hearing from you is an essential part of my work, so please continue to call and email my office. Here are several important updates I want to share with you:

Last night, the House made extraordinary progress in our continued fight to protect the health care of working Americans. H.R. 1834, a bill to extend ACA tax credits for 3 years, passed the House in strong bipartisan fashion. This has been a top priority of mine since before the 2025 government shutdown, and I look forward to seeing this legislation now make its way to the Senate. No person should have to give up their care because of price increases.

In response to the alarming situation in Venezuela, I expressed my concerns about the constitutionally-required congressional authority to carry out military actions as it relates to the Administration's forced regime change. My complete statement can be found here.

Here in the United States, Minneapolis is reeling from the tragic shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent. I am deeply troubled and angered by her death, and I am calling for a full, transparent investigation into ICE's actions to ensure the truth is exposed and justice is served. The American people deserve answers.

This week in Washington, we took time to commemorate one of the darkest days of our nation's democracy. Tuesday marked five years since the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol, and I spoke from the House floor to share reflections on the work still ahead of our country five years later. To view my remarks, click here or on the image below.

Yesterday also marked the fifteen year anniversary of another devastating act of gun violence in American history—the assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabby Giffords which killed six people. Through her recovery and subsequent advocacy for gun safety, my friend continues to save lives every single day.

In 2026, I will continue to keep you informed of all the ways in which my office can assist and serve you. I am pleased to share the announcement of one of my favorite annual constituent services programs, Valentines for Veterans. This is always a meaningful opportunity to show love to Georgia veterans and a reminder of the responsibility we have to fulfill our obligation to the men and women who served our country. If you would like to join me in creating cards for veterans in our community, see the graphic below or read this press release from my office.

Red graphic with hearts reads "Valentines for Veterans! Join me in sharing love and gratitude with a Georgia veteran this year. By Friday, February 6th, send cards to: Rep. Lucy McBath, ATTN: Valentines for Veterans, 3330 Cumberland Blvd SE, Suite 610, Atlanta, GA 30339."

Thank you for staying up to date with my office. If you require federal assistance of any kind, I encourage you to call my office at (470) 773-6330 or email me at mcbath.house.gov/email-me. For more local updates, please visit my social media platforms.
