[2026 Emergency Watchlist] New world disorder: Support shrinks as crises surge.

John,

We recently released our 2026 Emergency Watchlist—a crucial report that identifies the 20 countries most at risk of worsening humanitarian conditions in the year ahead.

This year's Emergency Watchlist reveals what we're calling a "New World Disorder": surging crises and shrinking support. The 20 countries on the list are home to just 12% of the world's population, but account for 89% of people in humanitarian need and are projected to host more than half of the world's extreme poor by 2029. While crises grow, global humanitarian funding has shrunk by 50%.

As a valued supporter, we wanted to make sure you received the Emergency Watchlist first. Here's why:

→ Your partnership helps fill the gap. As this "New World Disorder" grows and international support shrinks, caring donors like you become even more critical. The Emergency Watchlist helps us anticipate where we'll be needed most—and thanks to you, we're ready to act when communities urgently need help.

→ You'll get unique insights that you may not see elsewhere. Beyond the data, the Emergency Watchlist reveals the forces driving this disorder—intensifying geopolitical tensions, shifting alliances and the erosion of global cooperation that once protected the world's most vulnerable.

→ You'll see how your generosity drives innovative solutions. While the challenges are significant, our experience shows that there are effective ways to save lives, build resilience and preserve the livelihoods of the most vulnerable—and you're a key part of this work. Last year alone, you helped the IRC reach millions of people in more than 40 countries with life-changing assistance.

Get an inside look at where the need is greatest and how the IRC is responding.

Families in these 20 countries are facing unprecedented need amid surging crises and shrinking international support—and we all have a role to play in helping them survive, recover and rebuild.

Thank you for standing with us—and with families and communities in crisis around the world.
