Impeach Kristi Noem!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: JD Vance issues insane announcement on Minneapolis shooting

The Orwellian spin coming out of the Trump White House following Wednesday's disturbing killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent is reaching particle collider speeds. We are being asked to ignore what our own eyes and ears have quite clearly witnessed on video and accept the authoritarian administration's cockamamie take on the needless tragedy. Donald Trump's faithful No. 2 dragged himself before the podium yesterday and proceeded to lecture the media for their "shameful" (i.e. accurate) coverage of the event, which apparently has upset Vance far more than the actually killing of an innocent mother of three. How dare news outlets describe the victim of a senseless killing as, well, the victim of a senseless killing!

"Kristi Noem's an idiot": Democratic congressman shreds DHS secretary who "didn't even realize that there was gonna be video" of ICE killing
Rep. Seth Magaziner ripped Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to shreds on Thursday for immediately and ridiculously accusing Renee Nicole Good of being a "domestic terrorist." When asked what he made of the Gestapo Barbie's take on the tragedy, Magaziner did not hold back: "Kristi Noem’s an idiot, right? Like, she went on TV before any of the facts were in. She made up this story on TV about ICE agents trying to dig their truck out of the snow or something, which was clearly false. Like she didn't even realize that there was gonna be video of what happened when she went up and gave a false story. Everybody in the Trump administration lies, but she’s not even good at the lie, right? And we've seen that over and over again. So, you know, it would be ridiculous, it would be funny if it wasn't so sad and tragic because actual people’s lives are being ruined and in some cases ended by the lawlessness of the administration. And, again, like, if they had just done what they said they would do and just focus on people with serious criminal records, no one would be complaining, but they can’t help themselves."

Bitter winter heaps new hardships on the women and girls of Gaza

UNFPA: A shaky ceasefire is in place, but 700,000 menstruating women and girls that live in the cramped displacement camps of Gaza are still facing desperate shortages of the most basic necessities — and a bitter winter looms. 10 million menstrual pads are needed every month, but less than a quarter of that is available to ease the indignity and discomfort of Gazan women. UNFPA is leading a drive to provide 2,500 Dignity Kits to women and girls in Gaza, making sure they have menstrual products, soap, toothbrushes, and clean clothing so they can live with dignity, even in the darkest of times. Each kit costs just $15 to produce – Will you chip in to ease the suffering of some of the world’s most vulnerable women?

Oh, hey. Look who definitely ain't going away! Also, we do not believe the DOJ will do it, either.

MAGA congressman makes stunning declaration that disobeying feds means you can be killed
At what point do we just start cueing up "The Imperial March" theme from Star Wars every time one of these MAGA ghouls opens their servile mouths and spouts this kind of fascistic lunacy?

Trump prepares Republicans for wipeout in 2026

During a softball sit down with Fox News' Sean Hannity, the MAGA cult leader openly admitted his party's prospects in the upcoming midterms are, well, not good. Without a shred of self-awareness, the wannabe dictator rhetorically wondered aloud, "There’s something down, deep psychologically with the voters, that they want maybe a check or something?" Oh, ya think? It really shouldn't come as a surprise that Americans might increasingly feel the need to reel in Trump's runaway megalomania, which he himself succinctly summed up in an interview with The New York Times published just yesterday. When asked if there were any constraints or limitations to what he could get away with on the world stage, Trump literally said out loud: "Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me. I don't need international law." That ain't the rhetoric of a public servant, folks. That's unadulterated, mad king gibberish.

Take Action: Take action to protect our Social Security offices!

Senate pushes back on Trump’s military threats against Venezuela with war powers vote
The Senate advanced a resolution Thursday that would limit Donald Trump's ability to conduct further attacks against Venezuela, sounding a note of disapproval for his expanding imperial ambitions in the Western Hemisphere. Democrats and five Republicans voted to advance the war powers resolution on a 52-47 vote and ensure a vote next week on final passage. It has virtually no chance of becoming law because the wannabe dictator would have to sign it if it were to pass the Republican-controlled House. Still, it was a significant gesture that showed unease among some Republicans after the US military kidnapped Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in a surprise, illegal nighttime raid over the weekend.

"Obey or die": Stephen Colbert warns Trump administration's ICE shooting "spin" is "an alarm bell"
Colbert opened last night's show with a sharply serious, sobering take on the tragic killing of Renee Nicole Good, and it's absolutely worth a few minutes of your time. The CBS late-night host called on citizens to “non-violently” let leaders hear their opposition to the Trump administration’s deeply disturbing approach to power, explaining: "The message from this administration is clear: only they determine the truth, and when their forces come to your city, obey or die, and if you die, you clearly didn't obey." He continued, "This should be an alarm bell for the entire country, whether you live in a red state or a blue state, because if we let this go on, regardless of who your state voted for, one day you'll have unaccountable armed government agents acting with impunity in your town." Hear, hear.

17 Republicans join Democrats in vote to restore Obamacare subsidies that House Speaker and the GOP let expire last year
A group of Republican House members found something resembling a spine yesterday (or, more likely, are reading the tea leaves and sweating their reelection chances later this year) and joined Democrats to advance legislation restoring critical subsidies for Americans who get their healthcare through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. The House bill would restore Obamacare subsidies for three years, though passage in the Senate is still considered a long shot. While the current measure is almost certainly doomed to fail in the upper chamber, Democrats and some Republicans hope yesterday's progress in the House will lay the groundwork for a bipartisan agreement to tame skyrocketing health insurance premiums — the direct result of Republicans in Congress allowing the tax credits to lapse Dec. 31.

Portland mayor calls for ICE to "halt all operations" in his city after two people are shot and injured by federal agents
The mayor of Portland has called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to "halt all operations" in the Oregon city after two people were shot and injured by Border Patrol officers on Thursday. "We are calling on ICE to halt all operations in Portland until a full and independent investigation can take place," Mayor Keith Wilson said at a press conference late Thursday. "Our community deserves answers. Our community deserves accountability. And most of all, our community deserves peace." The shooting occurred during a vehicle stop just a day after an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis. "Portland is not a training ground for militarized agents. When the administration talks about using full force, we are seeing what it means on our streets," Wilson said.
