Western Wire ([link removed]) (7/23/20) column: "Having just spent several weeks visiting many of our states and national parks along the Colorado Plateau, I can tell you firsthand that America is truly blessed with an abundance of natural wonders. And yes, they deserve to be protected and properly maintained. However, the recently passed Great American Outdoors Act, likely signed into law by President Trump, is not the proper remedy for protecting and funding our national park system. While the bill provides funding to help address the backlog of maintenance needs in our national park system, it also comes with a high price tag. Title II of the legislation makes funding permanent for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), committing $900 million per year of federal oil and gas revenues towards the purchase of new lands to be added to the federal estate without Congressional oversight. This is a land grab pure and
simple. It will violate private property ownership and perpetuate the government’s mismanagement of the federal estate. So, should we overlook the bad to keep the good? I say no. And President Trump should say no, too."


** "It is unconscionable to continue to let federal regulations like the RFS cause so much damage to a nationally important industry. Congress, with the support of the Trump administration, should take up legislation that will fix the RFS."

China needs to dig up Greenland's minerals to make solar panels and windmills for Biden's energy plan.

(7/23/20) reports: "Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met yesterday with Greenland's top diplomat amid growing global interest in the world's largest island...'Warming temperatures in the Arctic and ice loss in Greenland pose environmental concerns but also raise the possibility of increased access to Greenland's potential oil, gas, and mineral reserves,' wrote CRS researcher Kristin Archick. Pompeo also is concerned with China and its interest in Greenland. In his most recent appearances before the press, Pompeo has railed against China — promising a strong U.S. response to Beijing's moves in the South China Sea and a recent security law that collapsed China's 'one country, two systems' promise to Hong Kong after that territory was ceded to the mainland by the United Kingdom. The State Department acknowledged that China was discussed at the talks in Denmark. The promise of natural resource riches and investment opportunities is drawing in Chinese investors, who experts say now control about
10% of foreign investments in Greenland."

His alarm over the continued influx of Central American migrant families seeking to claim asylum in the United States — and his government’s seeming inability to stop it — saw the White House carry out a dramatic purgel ast week of Homeland Security officials. By one estimate, if current trends continue, 1 percent of the entire population of Guatemala and Honduras may be apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border this fiscal year...What Trump has spent far less time discussing are the driving forces of this current wave of migration — at least not the one whose very existence the president still disputes. But it’s become increasingly clear that climate change has played a significant part in deepening the extreme poverty and insecurity that compels many to head north. According to the World Bank, climate change could lead to at least 1.4 million people
leaving their homes in Mexico and Central America over the next three decades."
