I am unbelievably angry about what happened to Renee Nicole Good—the woman who was murdered in Minneapolis yesterday by an ICE agent. No matter where you stand on immigration, this was unjustifiable. She did not deserve to die—and the videos and witness testimony make that aggressively clear.
I grew up in a law enforcement household. In moments like this, I usually call my dad. He’s a 34-year veteran of the FBI, and I get his take—because he’s been trained to be in the kinds of high-pressure situations like this one.
I’m going to keep most of that conversation private, because he asked me to. But there’s one thing I want to share: my dad will often say, “Imagine it was me out there—thinking my life or the lives of other officers were in danger.” And I get that. Every cop walks into a shift knowing it might be their last.
But I pushed back, like I did yesterday. I told him: What if it was me in that car? What if it was me protesting ICE? What if it was me standing up for what I believe in? Do I deserve to die?
Because Renee didn’t. Not by any reasonable standard. I guarantee you that, based on everything I’ve seen.
She leaves behind a six-year-old son—the same age as my own kid. Her husband died a few years ago. That little boy is alone now. His life will never be the same. Thank God his grandfather is still alive to raise him.
This is heartbreaking. And it never should have happened.
ICE should never have been there in the first place—terrorizing immigrant communities, conducting raids without warrants, snatching people up based on the color of their skin, not their immigration status. Not whether they committed an actual crime. Just rounding people up. It’s happening in Chicago. It’s happening in Minneapolis. It’s happening all over. And it is wrong.
It’s also not popular.
Donald Trump is wildly unpopular on immigration. And that matters—because the arrogance you see from Trump, J.D. Vance, Stephen Miller, and the rest of these MAGA types is staggering.
They truly believe they’ll never be held accountable for what they’re doing. And that is obscene. I’ll echo what Mayor Frey said yesterday after the shooting:
ICE—get the fuck out of our cities. Nobody wants you here.
Now, let’s address what actually happened.
Renee Nicole Good was sitting in her car, parked, and was waving ICE cars past her. When she realized what was happening, she tried to leave. She was scared—as anyone would be when masked, armed men with their hands on their weapons are reaching into your vehicle—and she wasn’t trying to hit anybody, as the Trump administration has claimed.
And now you’ve got people online saying, “Well, if she’d just followed commands, she’d still be alive.”
But eyewitnesses on the ground say ICE agents—many of whom are untrained, incompetent, and outright disgraces to law enforcement—were shouting conflicting orders. One agent told her to go. Another told her to stop.
This is what happens when you hire unqualified people and give them guns.
These agents aren’t ready. They’re not trained. They have no idea what they’re doing.
When you’re in the FBI, like my father was, or you become a police officer, you go through serious, intensive training. That doesn’t mean every cop is great—but most of them know the basics: de-escalation, clear commands, accountability. These guys don’t.
They’ve built a private army for Donald Trump. That’s what ICE is now—a rogue militia for targeting anyone who steps out of line. And every ICE agent who’s signed up for this knows they can act with impunity. We’ve seen the horror stories across the country. We’ve seen people die.
And they know they won’t be held accountable.
They know Trump’s DOJ won’t touch them.
They know even if someone tries to hold them accountable later, Trump will just pardon them.
That’s the real reason Trump pardoned the January 6th rioters. He doesn’t give a shit about them. It was a message: If you do my dirty work, I’ve got your back. No matter what.
And now we’re dealing with a runaway boulder barreling down a hill.
It’s terrifying.
The immigrant communities being terrorized by ICE don’t deserve this.
Yes—secure the border.
Yes—remove people who commit violent crimes.
But fix the damn immigration system so people who are already here—where the only difference between them and me is a fucking piece of paper—can be citizens. Can contribute. Can pay taxes. Can live like human beings. Can support their families and their communities.
And stop chasing Stephen Miller’s wet dream where everyone in America has to be white.
And by the way—if you think Stephen Miller is going to stop with undocumented Hispanic immigrants, think again.
They want to come for people born here.
They want to purge anyone who doesn’t fit their twisted fantasy of racial purity.
I’m Irish and Italian. I doubt I even make the cut in Stephen Miller’s America.
One final thought:
With all the outrage porn out there—the manufactured bullshit people try to rile you up over—this shooting is something actually worth getting mad about.
Hold on to that outrage.
Organize in your community.
Protect your people.
Demand your reps in Congress do something.
Demand justice—however much of it we can get with Trump and Pam Bondi running the DOJ.
And come November? The reckoning is coming for these guys.
