Fifteen years ago today, Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was meeting with a
group of constituents in a Tucson-area supermarket parking lot, one of her
regular meet-and-greet events. The event violently ended when a
22-year-old man with a semiautomatic pistol opened fire on the small
crowd.

He killed six people and injured 13, including Giffords, who was shot in
the head.

That injury didn’t just derail her congressional career and require years
of physical therapy so that she could walk again, speak again. It created
a powerful advocate in the fight against gun violence.

Gabby was there at the beginning for March for Our Lives, speaking at the
first rally in Washington, D.C. in 2018 and joining Parkland survivors at
a rally in Chicago later that year to kick off their “Road to Change”
tour. She’s been with us every step of the way since.

Gabby is an incredible ally and an inspiration for us. On this day, we
want to recognize the difference she has made in this fight.

We’ll leave you with her words, from her open letter to us, published in
Glamour in March, 2018.

“We are poised to overcome the hurdles of the past and usher in a new era
of safety and commonsense solutions. When we do that, your energy, your
determination, your voices will be the reason. There are no limits to your
activism, as long as you just keep going. See you out in the streets.”

We heed those words every day, and remain committed to a future free from
gun violence.
