Beloved community -
Yesterday in Minneapolis, we saw the devastating results of the reckless and heartless ICE operation that the Trump regime has unleashed on our state. Renee Nicole Good [ [link removed] ], a member of our Minneapolis community, was shot and killed by a federal ICE agent [ [link removed] ] while she was looking out for her neighbors. I stand with our neighbors and community calling for justice and demanding that ICE and the U.S. Border Patrol leave Minnesota now.
To Renee’s child, family, friends and neighbors, I am so deeply sorry for this unimaginable loss. I am heartbroken and angry that Minneapolis lost a beloved community member because of the dangerous, cruel, and lawless federal actions that have put the residents of our city at risk. This should never have happened and I’m having a hard time finding the words to express the deep pain, anger, and sadness that this has inflicted on our city.
That trauma is compounded by the increasing ICE actions throughout the metro yesterday and an escalation of ICE actions targeting constitutional observers and bystanders. Yesterday, ICE and U.S. Border Patrol officers targeted Roosevelt High School [ [link removed] ], where armed federal agents, including U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, descended on school property during dismissal time, began tackling people, using chemical weapons on bystanders, and detaining two staff members.
I am horrified and infuriated that this federal incursion is now threatening the safety of our schools. I am so sorry, and I am grateful to the Roosevelt staff, parents, students, and neighbors who responded to bravely protect and care for each other in the face of reckless brutality. As every MPS parent knows, the district responded by closing Minneapolis public schools for the rest of the week [ [link removed] ] to protect kids from the dangerous actions of ICE in our communities.
I want you to know that I, along with the Minneapolis legislative delegation, am coordinating with our communities, and with local and state leaders to protect our neighbors and our state from the lawless federal operations and fight for accountability and justice for the harm they are causing. Here is the statement that the Minneapolis House Delegation issued yesterday [ [link removed] ]:

Minneapolis Delegation ICE Statement

""We are devastated and angry that today, "*"ICE killed a Minnesotan in the heart of our city."*" Tonight, a Minnesotan will not be with their family. Our deepest condolences go out to the victim and their family during this dark moment in our country’s history. "
"This killing comes after months of the federal government unleashing chaos and terror in our neighborhoods."*" ICE has kidnapped residents, taking away beloved members of our community. Now, their efforts to terrorize our community have resulted in the tragic loss of life. "*
"As members of the Minneapolis Delegation, "*"we are demanding that ICE leave our city and face accountability"*" for their unlawful, violent, and oppressive actions. At this time,"*" we are asking our community to stay safe, not buy the propaganda from Homeland Security, and look out for one another."*
"In the coming days, we will do everything we can to protect each other from this hostile federal government.”"

Today, the Minneapolis Delegation continues to work with Governor Walz, Mayor Frey and city, county, and state leaders to keep Minnesotans safe and to demand accountability for the federal government's actions breaking our laws and hurting our residents. I will continue to update you and share information as I have it.
In South Minneapolis, we’ve spent the past year taking care of each other through community networks, keeping watch, and mutual aid, and we’re not stopping now in the face of this unacceptable federal action. I am so proud of our community and the ways neighbors have shown up and worked together to protect each other and everyone of our beloved residents.
I wanted to share a list of resources and actions to help our community in this time: [ [link removed] ]
