I just signed one of the most consequential pieces of legislation during my eight years in office.
For the past two decades, a growing number of young people have struggled with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues in large part because of the overwhelming presence of smartphones.
That’s why, today, I signed bipartisan legislation establishing a cell phone ban in our K-12 schools.

Schools are places for our students to learn, socialize, and interact with each other — not constantly be distracted by cell phone screens. This policy will help our students succeed academically and restore focus in our classrooms.
With this legislation, New Jersey has set a national standard for protecting our students, their mental health, and their ability to thrive in the classroom. If you agree with our work to ban cell phones in schools and help set our students up for success, please add your name today →
Thanks for standing with me — and New Jersey’s students.
