Every year, we get questions from property owners and managing agents about creating Certificates of Rent Paid (CRPs). Those questions led us to develop eight reminders to help you avoid mistakes on your CRPs.
Property owners and managers must submit CRPs using e-Services by January 31, 2026. If your clients own rental property, you may use your tax professional e-Services account to create and e-file CRPs for your clients if they do not have an e-Services account. Your client must give each renter a CRP with an Electronic Certificate Number (ECN) by January 31 every year.
You cannot access your client’s account with third-party permissions to create CRPs. If you do not have or cannot get an e-Services account, work with your client to create CRPs using your client’s account.
Can I use a fill-in PDF to create and print CRPs for my client’s tenants?
No. You must use e-Services to generate ECNs for the CRPs before printing or emailing them. If you see outdated CRP forms used for tax year 2025, these are not acceptable and should be returned to the property owner or manager.
