Dear Reader,

At Pittsburgh’s Public Source, we believe local journalism is essential to civic life. As journalists and Pittsburghers, we are deeply saddened to learn about the closures of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh City Paper. When local newsrooms disappear, communities lose a shared source of information, accountability and connection. This moment underscores how fragile that ecosystem has become.

We’re proud to have been publishing stories that matter for our neighbors for 15 years, free of paywalls. We’re independent and nonprofit ([link removed]) , with no one dictating what we publish; we listen to you, our community members. We’re powered by the place we love and call home. Support from readers ([link removed]) keeps our lights, laptops and cameras on and allows our journalists to keep asking questions, following leads and documenting the people and neighborhoods around us.

Our newsroom had already set goals to reach even more people over the next few years, to offer new types of content, to go deeper into what defines and shapes the lives of people in our region, for good and ill. In this newly changed information landscape, we know that the public service we provide is more important than ever. Many of you are telling us that directly, and we’re here to answer that call with you and for you. But we can’t do it alone.

We hope that you’ll forward a story to a friend, tell a coworker or neighbor why you trust us as a news source, and consider making a monthly ([link removed]) or one-time ([link removed]) donation to help keep our newsroom strong.

Sincerely,

Halle Stockton
