The House of Representatives will finally vote this afternoon on a bill extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits for three years. (These credits expired at the end of 2025.) Once the House acts, the Senate must do its job and approve an extension that would provide access to healthcare for millions of working families currently struggling to afford the care they need.

We know that our communities are struggling, so please call your representative at 218-453-8077 to extend the ACA tax credits. We set up a special phone number to connect you with the correct lawmaker.

The expiration of the ACA tax credits will drive up costs and make it even harder for working families to pay the bills. Estimates show that Americans who currently receive ACA tax credits will see their costs rise 114 percent if Congress fails to act. This is unaffordable for so many and will force families to make gut-wrenching financial choices to afford care—or, even worse, to go without healthcare.

Our AFT Healthcare members tell us that having fewer people with healthcare coverage will put further strain on their hospitals, especially in rural and low-income communities. Many of these hospitals are already struggling from the Medicare cuts in the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

All of this creates a perfect storm of longer wait times, less access to care in an emergency, and fewer healthcare professionals helping patients get well. We can’t let that happen.
