Imagine that.
The President of the United States consulted oil companies about an invasion of a foreign nation and the arrest of their President before he even informed Congress.
This is corruption, plain and simple.
Big Oil is a major supporter of MAGA, providing both Trump and Republicans in Congress campaign cash for years. In 2024, Trump promised oil executives “a great deal” if they backed him once again. Pay to play. They took that deal, and Trump delivered.
He started by appointing Big Oil allies at key posts at the EPA and other regulators. He then fast-tracked drilling projects on public lands. He worked with Congress to slash billions in green tax credits that were helping renewables compete with oil — tax credits that Ed Markey led the charge on passing through the Senate.
This year, Trump plans to rescind what’s known as the “endangerment finding”, the government’s formal acknowledgement that global warming from greenhouse gases, produced by burning fossil fuels, endangers the public — the underlying finding that allows the government to regulate emissions from cars, power plants, oil and gas operations, and more.
But what we are seeing in Venezuela is perhaps the most appalling result of this corrupt deal between Trump and Big Oil: Using the military might of the United States for regime change with the goal of cashing in on Venezuela’s natural resources on behalf of American oil executives and their profits.
Friend, let’s state the obvious. Big Oil does not like Ed Markey. And in 2025, they spent over $100 million to lobby for their interests. They have a huge warchest to tap into, and they’re prepared to spend it to defeat folks like Ed, who stand in the way of their pro-pollution agenda.
Our only chance of fighting back is to use the power of grassroots fundraising — small contributions from thousands and thousands of people — to build our own war chest and win big in November.
