Trump's Venezuela raid killed more people than first realized

"Get the fuck out of Minneapolis!" Mayor Jacob Frey rages at ICE, calls "bullshit" on claim officer shot woman in self defense
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey held nothing back while expressing his outrage at the senseless killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old US citizen and mother of three, in broad daylight by a rogue, masked ICE agent on Wednesday. Footage of the appalling incident spread like wildfire yesterday, directly refuting the absolute bullshit narrative being parroted by Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, and other jackboot-licking MAGA ghouls desperately trying to cast Good as some sort of aggressor. Frey was having none of Trump's Orwellian nonsense, stating, "We’ve dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ICE presence in Minneapolis...What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets, and, in this case, quite literally killing people. So, they are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video of myself, I want to tell everybody, directly, that is bullshit. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed." He continued, "There’s little I can say, again, that’ll make this situation better, but I do have a message for our community, for our city, and I have a message for ICE. To ICE: get the fuck out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here." Frey's fury is more than understandable. This is fascism, folks. Trump's cosplay bounty hunters are a stain on America's soul. We must demand an immediate end to the havoc they are wreaking on our communities NOW.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Prosecutor issues must-see response to ICE killing in Minneapolis
On the latest episode of "The Legal Breakdown," Brian Tyler Cohen and Glenn Kirschner discuss the disturbing killing of Renee Nicole Good yesterday in Minneapolis, an incident Kirschner — a former US Army prosecutor and assistant US attorney — described as "some level" of "criminal homicide." Roll the tape to hear it straight from Kirschner just how bad this tragic event truly is.

Senate Democrats are rubber-stamping Trump’s crony judges
Demand Justice: Like everyone else he’s appointed to any position of importance, the judges being nominated by the Trump administration are diehard MAGA zealots who parrot Trump’s talking points and refuse to acknowledge that Joe Biden won the 2020 election — and for some frustrating reason, at least 17 Senate Democrats have voted to approve at least one of them. Demand Justice is launching the No Crony Judges campaign to make our voices heard and tell our Senators that this is beyond unacceptable. Click here to tell the Senate to vote NO on Trump’s radical nominees and protect the integrity of our courts!
JD Vance says America has "a Somali problem"
The vice president of the United States sat down with fellow insufferable blowhard Jesse Watters yesterday for a racist chat, waxing sanctimoniously about the "Somali problem" supposedly plaguing (white) America. Casually shitting on an entire immigrant community? Check. Throwing out wildly inaccurate numbers and flat-out making up "statistics" to fit a brazenly racist narrative? Check. There may very well be instances of fraud and abuse in America's byzantine welfare system — spoiler alert: there's fraud and abuse in every system in America — and some of it may very well be organized, but to cast entire immigrant communities as some sort of nefarious monolith siphoning resources at the expense of other families in need and "getting rich off the American taxpayer" is not only laughable, it's downright dangerous. For fuck's sake, Haitians aren't eating everyone's pets in Ohio and Somalis aren't gobbling up all the frickin' social safety net resources in Minnesota. This is xenophobia, plain and simple. A farcical smokescreen meant to distract and divide. Donald Trump's big bill of bullshit is ushering in the largest transfer of wealth — TO the already obscenely rich — in modern American history, and his MAGA minions want the rest of us bickering over scraps falling to the floor. Do not be fooled by their divisive bullshit.

US will exit 66 international organizations as it further retreats from global cooperation
Donald Trump's regressive march backwards to 19th-century-esque protectionism continued apace yesterday, with news that the wannabe dictator was formally withdrawing the United States from dozens of international organizations focused on fostering more global cooperation on any number of complex challenges facing people sharing the only known habitable planet in the universe. Donald's go-it-alone crusade is, of course, fueled by his allergic reaction to anything remotely related to fostering diversity or collective goodwill, and that now apparently includes organizations like Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation, the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, and the Global Counterterrorism Forum, as well as dozens of other UN-related organizations. This should end well.

AOC slams "pervert" Jesse Watters after telling off Fox News host's producer
Jesse Watters Primetime producer/hatchet-man Johnny Belisario approached Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez outside the Capitol yesterday to extend a "gotcha"-style invitation to appear on the Fox News' gasbag's show, and it went about as well as you might expect. AOC let Belisario know she wasn't interested in chatting with Watters, who she rightly accused of regularly engaging in "sexually exploitative rhetoric." A short while later, Ocasio-Cortez quote-tweeted video footage of the encounter, adding, "You can either be a pervert or ask me to be on your little show. Not both. Good luck!"
Trump store in major battleground district shutters: "Has kind of run its course"
A brick-and-mortar Trump merchandise store in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which the MAGA cult leader narrowly won in 2024, announced — on Jan. 6, of course — that it would be shutting down soon, with owner Mike Domanico openly admitting the operation had "kind of run its course." That's shorthand for "business is cratering," by the way. Domanico told a local news channel he was moving to an online-only model to hawk his collection of Trump-themed flags, hats, koozies, t-shirts, hoodies, banners, mugs, buttons, dolls, bobbleheads, ornaments, comic books, figurines, bumper stickers, car decals, stuffed animals, toilet paper, white privilege rewards cards (seriously), glassware, stun guns (why not?), wallets, purses, keychains, AirPods cases, sun visors, coasters, fake-gold watches, and, of course Charlie Kirk shit, too. Nope, definitely not a cult!

Trump catches Republicans off guard with proposed ban on large institutional investors buying up single-family homes

House takes step toward extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, overpowering stubborn GOP leadership
Nine vulnerable Republicans crossed the aisle to join Democrats in forcing a vote on extending Obamacare subsidies that House Speaker Mike Johnson gleefully let expire at the end of last year. By a tally of 221-205, the bipartisan coalition successfully advanced a measure to revive an enhanced pandemic-era subsidy that lowered health insurance costs for roughly 22 million people. If ultimately successful in the House this week, the voting would show there is bipartisan support for a proposed three-year extension of the tax credits. It's unclear whether the negotiations will yield a bill that Republicans in the Senate will bother to take up. Democrats, of course, are making clear that the higher health insurance costs millions of Americans are facing will be a political centerpiece of their efforts to retake the majority in the House and Senate in the fall elections. Game on.
RFK Jr. unveils new upside down food pyramid with lots of red meat and dairy at the top
To be fair, the new dietary guidelines rolled out by Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aren't actually all bad — reducing intake of highly refined foods, steering away from carbohydrate-loaded bombs, and avoiding added sugars are all generally good ideas — but, as is so often the case with the anti-vaxx quack's proselytizing, there are some head-scratching and downright unscientific problems just beneath the surface. Adding more protein to your diet? Sure! Sourcing it primarily from red meat and cheese? Maybe not. Beef tallow over olive oil? Slow your roll, Bobby. We're actually on board the "eat real food" train, but most nutritionists agree we should be turning to leaner proteins like chicken and fish and protein-rich plants like beans, nuts, and seeds to boost our protein consumption. And none of this really takes into consideration the environmental impact of everyone suddenly gorging on billions more pounds of beef, either. In any case, the inverted pyramid is objectively better than the certifiably bonkers version from the 1990s, which called for as many as ELEVEN daily servings of highly processed breads, cereals, pastas, and other grains. Any reduction in ultra-processed foods — especially in school lunches — is a common-sense win for improving Americans' long-term health. But, if we're being honest, we're kinda surprised roadkill is nowhere to be found on Bobby Jr.'s new chart. Weird!
