Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, As we kick off 2026, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on the conversations I had across Eastern Iowa last year — around kitchen tables, at town hall meetings, in farm shops, and in our rural communities. No matter where I went, Iowa families told me the same thing: they want affordable child care, the ability to buy a home, access to health care, to keep more of their hard-earned paycheck — and to know their government is focused on solving real problems, not playing political games. My mission has always been to make Washington run more like Iowa and to solve the problems facing Iowa families. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation like the First Home Savings Opportunity Act, helping first-time homebuyers save for a down payment and making homeownership more achievable for young families here in Iowa. I’ve also led bipartisan legislation to allow families to save tax-free for early learning expenses — because child care and early education are foundational to a child’s success. Under President Trump’s leadership, we’ve refocused Washington on pro-family, pro-worker policies. I was proud to support President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts, which include no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no taxes on Social Security, and an enhanced Child Tax Credit — so Iowans can keep more of what they earn. Because let’s be real: Iowans know how to spend your money better than Washington does. I’ve also remained committed to standing up for our veterans, improving access to maternal health care, and making sure Communist China can’t own another acre of American land or rip off Iowa businesses and workers. And we are laser-focused on improving the ag economy after four years of destructive Biden policies. We have passed key provisions to strengthen the farm safety net and open new trade opportunities for Iowa producers. And I will continue working to help lower input costs, fight for year-round E-15, and ensure our farmers can do what they do best: feed and fuel the world. Throughout 2025, I made nearly one hundred stops across the district —meeting Iowans where they are on farms, at small businesses, and listening to what matters to Iowans most at round tables and town hall meetings. Those conversations shape my work every day. The best ideas don’t come from Washington — they come from Iowa. I also secured nearly seven million dollars in federal funding for Iowa communities — supporting emergency services, rural drinking water infrastructure projects, and maternal health care. I’m committed to bringing every possible dollar back to Iowa while making sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. At its core, this job is about service. Last year alone, my team closed 1,101 constituent cases — helping Iowans recover money owed by the IRS, secure missing Social Security and veterans’ benefits, and expedite passport cases so families could reunite. We also responded to more than 44,000 calls, emails, and messages from Iowans across the district, and we look forward to continuing these conversations in 2026. If you need help navigating the federal government, my office is here for you. I’m proud of what we accomplished last year — and I’ll keep fighting to lower costs, solve problems, and focus on the issues Iowa families talk about around their kitchen tables every day. Thank you for the honor of serving you and your family. I will continue to be accessible and transparent, and work relentlessly to keep Iowa the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
