John, Kirsten here.
There's an affordability crisis in this country, and it's time we paid workers a fair wage. Right now, the federal minimum wage is still just $7.25 an hour – a rate that hasn't budged since 2009 .
That's 17 years without an increase, even as the costs of everything, from rent to groceries to childcare, has skyrocketed.
No one should be living in poverty, John. No parent should have to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table, and no worker should be forced to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet.
My Republican colleagues keep saying that raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 is too much. They claim it will hurt businesses and kill jobs. They’re wrong.
Over 8.3 million workers across 19 states will benefit from a minimum wage increase in 2026. Now it’s time to increase the federal minimum wage – not just state by state .
Studies show, when workers earn more, they invest more in the local economy. That means more customers for small businesses, more economic growth and a stronger middle class.
But I need to know what PA Democrats like you think. Whether you're a worker who would benefit directly from this increase, a small business owner or simply someone who believes that everyone deserves a living wage, your voice matters in this fight. [[link removed]]
