Enhanced tax credits that have helped reduce the cost of health insurance for the vast majority of Marketplace enrollees under the Affordable Care Act expired on Jan. 1. However, there is still hope that Congress may reach a deal to extend the tax credits retroactively and provide financial relief to the nearly 500,000 Alabamians who use Healthcare.gov for coverage.

In December, House Democrats and four Republicans joined on a discharge petition to require a vote on a three-year extension of the enhanced premium tax credits. Now that Congress is back from the holiday break, the House could vote on this bill as soon as Thursday. Congress needs to hear from us again that we want the tax credits extended.
