Dear Friend,

Americans want safety and stability. But that’s not what we are getting. These are unsettling, frightening times, and recent military aggression threatens to drag us into endless conflict. The Trump administration has conducted unauthorized military strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific, attacked Venezuela, kidnapped its president, and is threatening military action against Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, and beyond—all without congressional approval. These are unauthorized, dangerous acts of war.

The administration is using drugs as an excuse to seize power, control resources like oil, and illegally assert U.S. control abroad. These actions threaten our safety, putting people at risk overseas and here at home.

Act now: urge Congress to pass war powers resolutions to end military action in Venezuela and beyond.

Despite claims that these actions address the threat of fentanyl and drug trafficking, we must be clear about what is actually happening. President Trump’s recent pardon of a former Honduran president convicted of drug trafficking—all while gutting addiction treatment and overdose prevention funding at home—shows this was never about drugs. This is a reckless power grab disguised as a drug war, threatening to destabilize the region. In Trump’s own words, this was done to “get the oil flowing.”

Concerns about the Maduro government, including serious human rights violations, are legitimate. However, unlawful regime changes carried out by force will likely intensify instability and violence. Rather than addressing underlying issues, this could strain relations with other countries by violating international law and make conditions worse for Venezuelans.

While the administration escalates conflicts with other countries for power and oil, our communities face urgent crises here at home. Families want their loved ones to be safe from fentanyl, addiction, and overdose. Yet the federal government is gutting the few lifelines available. Drastic cuts to Medicaid, CDC, and SAMHSA funding mean less access to healthcare, overdose prevention services, and addiction treatment—programs proven to save lives.

All the while, healthcare costs are soaring for American households, with many being priced out of getting care. It shouldn’t be this way.

Congress must act swiftly to stop unauthorized military actions and refocus resources on health solutions that protect people.
