Yesterday was the five-year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection. On that day, Donald Trump’s lies and refusal to accept defeat inspired a mob to attack our nation’s Capitol. 

Our democracy was nearly torn apart at that moment. And Trump never faced accountability for his treason. Instead, Trump and his collaborators escaped justice altogether. 

Earlier this year, Trump pardoned those jailed for participating in the insurrection, calling them “patriots.” And in doing so he unleashed rapists, pedophiles, and domestic abusers back onto our streets:

One of the people Trump pardoned for J6 even ended up in my replies on X, and in typical MAGA fashion, called me a terrorist and demanded a military-style raid on my home: 

This is the violence that Trump’s politics has unleashed, a movement that celebrates cruelty, lawlessness, and hurting people. 

When families are crushed by medical debt, rising rents, student loans, and astronomical prices at the grocery store, anger surges and demagogues like Trump weaponize it.

If we’re going to heal this country and finally break the grip of Trump’s violent politics, Democrats can’t just condemn the violence. We have to address the root causes.

That’s why I am running on a bold, progressive vision for America. We can beat Trumpism with real solutions for working families that improve their lives and lower the temperature. Medicare for All. Affordable housing. Canceling student debt. Cracking down on corporate price gouging. That is how we make sure January 6 never happens again.
