Five years ago this week, supporters of Donald Trump attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6th — in a deadly attempt to block the peaceful transfer of power.

After the attack, I was named as an impeachment manager – prosecuting the case against Trump for inciting the riot and failing to fulfill his duties as commander-in-chief.

As I said then, January 6th was an attempted coup.

That day was a dark stain on our nation’s history – one Trump has never fully been held accountable for. And five years later, his attacks on our democracy continue unchecked by Republicans in Congress.

As we mark this dark anniversary, we MUST recommit ourselves to strengthening our democracy so this never happens again. That includes putting a check on Trump by taking back control of Congress this year.
