Over 400,000 Virginians just saw their health care costs go up.

The enhanced ACA subsidies expired on January 1st. For more than 400,000
Virginians who get their health insurance through the marketplace, premiums are
now going up by an average of 21%.

Some families are seeing increases as high as 114%.

Aetna dropped out of Virginia's individual market entirely, leaving nearly
14,000 Virginians scrambling for new coverage.

Every Virginia Republican in Congress voted against extending the subsidies.
Rep. Jen Kiggans said in September that "it's time to end these tax credits."
Now her constituents in Hampton Roads are paying the price.

Meanwhile, all six Virginia Democrats in the House signed the discharge petition
that forced a vote on extending the subsidies. That vote is scheduled for the
first week of January.

This will be a defining issue heading into 2026. Virginia's state legislative
races and Kiggans' seat in the 2nd District are all on the ballot.Read what
