This situation is critical.
Since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies expired at the end of 2025,
millions of families are now facing double or triple their monthly
insurance premium costs.
This is unconscionable. Our patients shouldn’t have to choose between
health care and keeping food on the table or paying the electric bill.
That's why we are demanding that Congress put our patients first and vote
in support of extending the ACA subsidies and preventing needless
suffering. Over the holiday break, 4 Republican Members of Congress joined
Minority Leader Jeffries’ discharge petition to extend the subsidies for 3
years — getting us to 218 signatures needed to force a vote on the bill
this week!

Here's a short script you can follow:
“Hi, my name is _______. I am a constituent and I’m a nurse/other health
care worker/patient. I’m calling today to urge my representative to
support Minority Leader Jeffries’ discharge petition to extend the ACA
tax credits for three years. Since January 1st, more than 20 million
Americans are facing the choice of significantly higher health care
costs or to go uninsured. In fact 1 in 4 people who get their coverage
on the ACA marketplace reported they are likely to go without coverage
if the subsidies are not extended. I urge my Member of Congress to
support the discharge petition to extend the ACA subsidies and prevent
needless suffering when it comes to the floor for a vote this week.
Thank you.”
Health
care is a human right. We know that Medicare for All is the real long term
solution to our health care crisis. That’s why nurses are fighting to
replace our broken, for-profit health care system with a single-payer
health care system that would end health disparities, effectively control
costs, and assure that everyone has equal ability to receive an excellent
standard of care as a human right. But we also know that fighting to
extend these ACA subsidies in the short term is critical for the tens of
millions of patients that rely on them.
Let’s demand our representatives do the right thing and save health care
for millions of people. Our power comes from our collective patient
advocacy, and we’re so grateful you are with us.
In solidarity,
National Nurses United
