The international abortion lobby is scrambling after President Trump dismantled the U.S.'s foreign aid bureaucracy and reinstituted pro-life funding guidelines for overseas partners.  According to their advocacy materials, unless the U.S. restores funding to family planning organizations (most of which promote abortion as well), women around the world will die.

This Definitions article takes a closer look at their claims and analyzes the faulty and misleading metrics that are routinely used to pressure donors to continue funding these organizations, which in turn pressure developing countries to liberalize their abortion laws and embrace gender ideology.  If we want to save lives and ensure that childbirth is safe everywhere, we need different strategies and better partners.

The dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and cuts to many other areas of foreign assistance during the second Trump administration have left many sectors scrambling to adapt. They include family planning and “reproductive health” organizations—many of which promote abortion overseas. These groups are accustomed to funding cuts under Republican administrations and have perfected the arguments in favor of restoring their funding. This Definitions examines these claims and demonstrates that the more one examines their statistics, the weaker their arguments become. While people of good will can argue over what level and type of foreign assistance the U.S. should provide, U.S. family planning funding deserves to be subjected to particular scrutiny—both because of its misleading use of statistics and because it serves as a pipeline to the global abortion lobby. Read more >>>
