Five years ago today, white nationalists stormed the Capitol with weapons
in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Nine deaths
were linked to the attack.
Despite the coup attempt, we all know Donald Trump returned to power in
the 2024 election. And over the past year, we’ve seen just how dangerous,
chaotic, and downright deranged his second term is going to be. From
terrorizing immigrant communities, using the military to do the bidding of
oil companies, defunding programs created to prevent gun violence, to his
total cover up of the Epstein files — there’s no shortage of reminders.
Let today be a reminder of what we’re up against,
John.
This fight is about more than one man — it’s about the entire political
movement that would rather see our country burn to the ground than admit
they were wrong.
We have to defeat Trumpism for good. And in order to repair our democracy
and build a better future, we must weed out the far-right extremism in
Congress and beyond by directly challenging the hopelessness that
Republicans feed off of to stay in power. That starts with this year’s
midterms, by electing a new generation of young leaders who will advance a
progressive vision for the future. Leaders who won’t take money from the
very special interests and corporations that continue to fund many of the
members of Congress who were directly involved in denying the results of
the 2020 election.
