John, have you
seen this article in Capital and Main?

This is the type of moment that reconfirms why I’m in this race. I grew up
in Section 8 housing and I know just the type of struggle and distress
that folks seeking rental assistance are in.

To know that one of the biggest landlords in all of LA was turning away
people seeking apartments under the Section 8 housing assistance program
in many of its buildings, in violation of state law, reaffirms my decision
to run for office.

These are families just like mine, with their back against the wall. After
my father was deported when I was just fifteen years old, my mom had to
figure out how to provide for herself and her daughters.

That meant we lived in our car. That meant we lived in shelters. That
meant we were lucky to get off a waiting list and into a home.

A home is so much more than just a place where you lay down your head at
night. It’s a place that is foundational to safety and security. Everyone
should have access to this.

This bad landlord was only emboldened because of a broken system that
prioritizes profit and greed over people. It’s exactly why I refuse to
take a dime of real estate developer money.

I depend on supporters like you so much more. Can I count on your donation

What does housing for all look like,
John? To me it’s:

* Expansion of housing choice vouchers and emergency rental assistance

* Federal incentives for permanently affordable housing

* Strong support for community land trusts

* Rapid rehousing with wraparound services

* A proactive, preventative approach to homelessness

These are policies that my family desperately needed when I was growing
up. Having them would’ve made all the difference.

[ [link removed] ]Let’s make sure LA families have them moving forward. If you’re with
me, donate $5 or anything you can today!

In solidarity,

Angela
