John,

Five years ago, like millions of Americans, I watched as an enraged crowd breached the halls of our nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C. to overturn the people’s vote.

The violent and deadly insurrection was the culmination of lies and conspiracies about the 2020 election spread by Donald Trump and his far-right base.

At the time, both sides denounced the violence and vitriol, and I hoped that would bring about much-needed unity. That wasn’t what happened.

Instead, the most extreme factions within the Republican Party embraced that strategy — and they put it into action right here in Arizona.

I was Secretary of State at the time when the “Stop the Steal” movement took hold. I was harassed and even received death threats because of my role in overseeing Arizona’s elections.

Some would believe that in moments like that, you only have two options — fight, or give in. I chose to get the job done.

We counted every vote, and in the middle of a once-in-a-century pandemic, we proved that democracy works.

Now, in my re-election race for governor, our democracy is on the line once again.

All three of my Republican opponents have spread the same lies and conspiracy theories that led to the insurrection on our Capitol and that made Arizona the epicenter of MAGA chaos in 2020.

All three have continued to stand with Donald Trump, even after he pardoned the violent insurrections that attacked the Capitol on January 6th.

And all three of my GOP opponents have kept completely silent as Donald Trump continues to spread lies about Arizona’s elections and threatens to roll back voting rights for millions of Arizonans.

John, I’ll always respect the will of Arizonans — no matter the outcome.

When my opponents attack voting rights, spread misinformation, and excuse violent extremism, I won’t hesitate to call it out.

And John, I’m counting on you to stand with us and to help us be prepared for whatever they throw our way over the coming months. The work of protecting our democracy and our fundamental right to vote requires all of us to stay engaged.

Thank you for reading. I’m grateful for your support.

Katie
