Hello,

Five years ago, a violent mob of insurrectionists stormed the US Capitol in an
attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election. It was one the
darkest moments in modern U.S. history, resulting in the death of five
Americans and dozens of injuries.

On this day, our nation experienced a direct assault on our democracy. At the
center of this attack was an organized effort to stop Congress from carrying
out its constitutional duty to certify the results of the presidential
election. False claims about widespread voter fraud were echoed to undermine
public trust in our elections, all because they didn’t like the outcome.

When powerful leaders sow doubt in our election systems and courts, they
weaken the institutions that are designed to protect our right to vote.

We honor those who were harmed, those who protected democratic institutions
under extraordinary circumstances, and the democratic processes that endured
and, ultimately, prevailed.

In these times, defending democracy requires vigilance, accountability, and a
sustained commitment to defending the very ideals of America — free and fair
elections, safeguarding our elections, and the rule of law.

Let us recommit to building a fairer, more representative democracy and
ensuring every American has an equal opportunity to vote.

— Voting Rights Fund

Voting Rights Fund wasn’t created just to defend voting rights — we elect the
leaders who will expand and protect them. Our aim is to keep our operational
costs as low as possible, so a majority of our funds go toward doing the work
that needs to be done. That means building a national bench of lawmakers who
will fight tooth and nail to expand access to the ballot box and protect our
right to vote at every level of government.
