Data centers are quickly becoming one of the biggest issues in this year’s
midterm elections, and it’s important you know where the candidates in
Michigan’s Senate race stand.
Luckily, a local news outlet, The ‘Gander, asked every candidate about
data centers and AI. Here’s what they found, and why it matters to you:
First off, MAGA Republican Mike Rogers gave… no comment. 🦗
The other Democratic candidates gave broad statements on supporting
“innovation” and “workforce development,” but failed to provide any
specific, concrete answers to the questions we’re all asking, like “Who
pays for the massive energy demands of new data centers?”
Abdul wasn’t afraid to name names. He called out utility companies like
DTE and Consumers Energy and demanded clear rules that any new project
guarantees union jobs, delivers real community benefits, and runs on clean
energy, fully paid for without higher utility bills for Michiganders.
He’s also the *only* candidate who’s never taken money from these
companies or any corporate PACs, and never will. Coincidence? Absolutely
not.
