Policy Priorities for the 2026 Legislative Session
In our Washington state, we understand that positive outcomes require positive investments. By supporting people in meeting their basic needs, we can build a stable foundation for everyone to thrive. The other Washington (DC) has chosen to turn their back on those who have the least to benefit the ultra-wealthy. With deep poverty on the rise in WA , our state must contend with federal funding cuts meant to gut lifeline programs and place blame on people living in poverty. In our prosperous state, scarcity is a myth and poverty is a policy issue . Therefore, we are committed to spending money on support instead of skepticism. In this Washington, we will fight to leverage progressive revenue and investments in robust social services to support our families and neighbors.
This session, we're advocating to maintain full support for lifeline programs:
* Pass progressive revenue to preserve crucial programs with fewer federal dollars and prevent cuts to lifeline services like SNAP and Medicaid * Pass HB 2100: the Well Washington Fund to address the current shortfall created by HR1
* Pass bold progressive revenue to balance our state’s upside-down tax code and prevent future budget crises
* Increase staffing and technological capacity to support growing human services demands amplified by HR1
* Lower administrative costs and root programs in dignity and trust by minimizing red tape and burdensome requirements
* Bolster existing consumer protections and protect low-income consumers from new predatory lending products
