Here’s how we fight back

Hi John

The New Year brings talk of resolutions and fresh starts. But if I’m honest, I’ve already found myself falling into the same patterns.

Opening social media, scrolling through the noise and the anger, closing the app feeling a bit worse than when I opened it.

And each time, I have the same thought: this isn’t where we win.

Don’t get me wrong, we can’t ignore what’s happening online. Tommy Robinson, Elon Musk and the global network around Trump, they’ve turned these platforms into recruitment machines. They’re good at it. They have the money, the reach, and the algorithms working for them.

We have to challenge them there. But if that’s the only battlefield, then we’ve already lost.

Because 2026 won’t be decided on social media.

It’ll be decided in May, when millions of people across Wales, Scotland, and England vote in local elections.

Real councils. Real power. Real consequences for communities.

And Reform UK? They are still leading in polls. A far-right party racing ahead, even after a chaotic year of scandals and incompetence in local government. That should worry us all.

But here’s what gives me hope.

When I step offline, I see something completely different. Most people aren’t hateful or extreme. They’re worried, frustrated, sometimes angry, but they want fairness, not cruelty.

When you talk to people face to face, something shifts. The temperature drops. Conversations become human again and you remember decency isn’t rare, it’s normal.

That’s the gap that Reform UK can’t close. They can dominate online. They can win the algorithm game. But in real conversations, in real communities, their lies fall apart.

That’s where we have the advantage. That’s where we win.

HOPE not hate is going all-in on real-world organising in 2026.
Your contributions have allowed us to grow our team to match the scale of what’s coming.

We’re organising local meetings, building community groups, and getting the truth out on doorsteps during election season.

Reform UK have built a formidable campaigning machine, powered on lies and hate. With your help, we can counter them every step of the way.

Will you join us, John?
