Tell Congress: No war on Venezuela! [link removed]
Dear Friend,
On Saturday, U.S. forces attacked Venezuela's capital city and abducted President Nicolás Maduro. President Trump has announced the U.S. will “run the country” indefinitely. But history shows us where U.S. military intervention leads.
War is never a path to peace. And this act of war is also illegal. This week, the Senate has a chance to stop it.
AFSC is joining with Demand Progress and other organizations in speaking out today.

The Trump administration first said this was about stopping drugs and ushering in democracy. Now it openly claims the U.S. has the right to overthrow Venezuela’s government and seize its oil. These shifting justifications expose what this is really about: U.S. control over oil and resources.
Nicolás Maduro should be held accountable for human rights violations. But that process should be determined by the Venezuelan people and their institutions, not through a U.S. military kidnapping.
This week, the Senate votes on a war powers resolution (S.J. Res. 98) to stop further military action. Congress must hear from constituents now.

As a Quaker organization, AFSC has worked to end war and militarism for over a century. We’ve seen where U.S. military intervention leads. In the 1980s, we documented how U.S. fueled violence in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. Hundreds of thousands were killed and disappeared, and millions were displaced. In Iraq and Afghanistan, decades-long wars cost countless lives and trillions of dollars—without making us safer.
Most people in the United States oppose this path. Instead of wasting taxpayer dollars on war, we need to invest in health care, housing, and programs that actually keep us healthy and safe.
U.S. bombs and guns never bring peace and justice. We will not stand by while our government drags us toward another endless war.
