Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Friends,

Good afternoon, and Happy New Year!

Over the weekend, I issued the following statement after President Trump addressed the nation regarding the capture and federal indictment of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro:

“Today, the United States captured and indicted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, a narco-terrorist whose actions have killed Americans and threatened our national security.

“Maduro did not simply illegitimately rule Venezuela. He led a regime that orchestrated drug trafficking, protected the cartels, and encouraged the flow of illegal drugs and violence into the United States.

“President Trump’s decisive action sends a clear message to the world. The United States will defend itself against foreign regimes that profit from drug trafficking and the actions of dangerous cartels targeting our nation. No individual, no matter how powerful, is above the law when Americans have been harmed by narco-terrorism.

“As President Trump confirmed, through this operation, the U.S. government removed Maduro from power. His indictment and transfer to federal court in New York is a crucial step toward justice.

“I commend President Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the U.S. military and law enforcement officials who carried out this operation with strength and resolve. Protecting American lives comes first, and today’s action makes that unmistakably clear.”

Fox Business: Rep. Fitzgerald Discusses Venezuela Operation

In case you missed it, I joined Fox Business yesterday to discuss the operation in Venezuela.

Maduro’s indictment is a crucial step toward justice. I believe President Trump was acting within his Article II authority to protect law enforcement who were executing an arrest warrant. In 1989, President George H.W. Bush ordered troops into Panama on a similar mission to capture Manuel Noriega, a dictator indicted by the U.S.

President Trump’s priority is to ensure a safe, proper, and judicious transition that provides the people of Venezuela with peace, liberty, and justice.

2025 in Review: Delivering Results for Wisconsin Families in the 119th Congress

I'm honored to serve you in Congress. 2025 was a very successful year!

  • 151 bills introduced and cosponsored
  • 87,000 constituent responses
  • 2,400 constituents assisted with the IRS, VA, Medicare, Social Security and tours coordinated in Washington, D.C.

Some Highlights:

Working Families Tax Cuts (Now Law): Provides tax relief for working families and small businesses, including farmers, by expanding credits, increasing deductions, and easing farm succession taxes. 2,826 family-owned farms in WI-05 would have had their Death Tax Exemption slashed in half in 2026 without this legislation.

HALT Fentanyl Act (Now Law): Permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs to strengthen law enforcement against trafficking.

FY26 NDAA (Now Law): Authorizing defense policy and funding for national security priorities in fiscal year 2026, it puts our service members first by including a 3.8% pay raise and support for their families.

Rescissions Act of 2025 (Now Law): This bill locks in $9.4 billion in real savings, restores fiscal sanity, puts Americans first, and roots out waste, fraud, and abuse.

INVEST Act to Expand Access to Capital for Small Businesses (Passed the U.S. House): The INVEST Act is bipartisan, commonsense legislation that expands early-stage investment opportunities, opens up financing for small businesses, and protects seniors from scams so more Americans can invest in the businesses of tomorrow.
