John,

Yesterday, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting officially announced it was closing permanently.

The announcement means that an astonishing 1,500 local radio and TV stations across the country will shut down.

It’s a devastating blow for communities that count on public broadcasting for the news.

COURIER is working hard to expand our coverage into many of the local communities impacted by the CPB’s closing. We believe EVERYONE should have access to courageous, independent local journalism, but we’re counting on your support to make that happen.

Please make a donation of $26 or more to support our mission today. [[link removed]]

The CPB is closing for one simple reason:

Once Trump and the MAGA Congress eliminated more than $1 billion in funding, the CPB had no choice. Now more than 1,500 local radio and TV stations across the country will have to end services.

The defunding of public broadcasting was a primary goal of Project 2025 and it’s part of a disturbing pattern in our country where Trump and MAGA use threats, intimidation, and outright corruption to silence and destroy the free press.

That’s why COURIER keeps asking for your support.

We reach nearly 10 million people every day with courageous journalism. We don’t rely on government funding. We don’t bow to corporate boards or Trump’s fear campaigns.

We exist to confront MAGA media directly — and to make sure people still have access to clear, factual reporting in a dangerous moment for our country.

But our independence doesn’t sustain itself.

If you believe democracy requires a media that tells the truth — especially when powerful interests try to silence it — now is the moment to help strengthen the alternative. [[link removed]]
