John, we planned to send something about January 6th today.
It’s been five years since Trump sent a mob of his supporters to the Capitol to steal an election. It’s a day we can never, ever forget.
But then, we saw this:
In case you can’t read it, that’s a picture of Lindsey Graham and Donald Trump on Air Force One yesterday. Trump’s holding a black “Make Iran Great Again” hat.
On that same flight, Lindsey Graham said, “You just wait for Cuba.”
These guys want to drag us into another era of forever wars that will leave our sons and daughters dead and maimed.
Trump told us he learned the lessons of Iraq and Afghanistan. He literally ran on getting us out of those wars, and promised his supporters he’d focus on home instead. He lied, just like he always does.
Guys like Lindsey Graham lied us into those wars in the first place. Our friends got blown up in Helmand, Fallujah, and a million other places we had never heard of. When we came back, when more of our friends started taking their own lives, guys like Graham tried to stop us from getting help. And now, he wants to send more kids off to die in Caracas, or Tehran.
But 20 years ago, literally to the day, we founded VoteVets.
We fought for health care, fought for counseling, fought for coverage when our friends started getting sick from burn pits — and we won.
We fought to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan — and we won.
We fought to get our voices in places of power — and we won (a lot).
And the path to stopping any more of these wars is the same as it always was: A sustained, nationwide, grassroots movement. After 20 years we know how to beat these guys, and we CAN beat these guys.
