John, Five years ago this morning MAGA rioters gathered in front of the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. Some carried concealed firearms and zip ties and were prepared to carry out detailed plans to breach the security perimeter and detain and execute key Democratic members of Congress like Nancy Pelosi. Although it was ultimately unsuccessful, Trump learned that he could push the Constitution to the absolute limits and that he would not be punished. This gave birth to a recalibrated and updated iteration of January 6th: Red State Redistricting. Rather than coming in hot with guns, ski masks, and zip ties, MAGA found that if they operate within the system and rig state congressional maps, they can implement one party rule whilst drawing far less attention to themselves. However, in doing so they’ve sowed the seeds of their own demise. Now Democrats are enacting retribution for January 6th and its updated iteration by beating MAGA at their own game and redistricting in blue states. Already California and Virginia have done it and now Colorado is poised to join them via the ballot measure that Colorado Draws the Line is introducing to make CO bluer and erase up to 3 MAGA seats. Take for instance CO-04, Lauren Boebert’s district — she’s the one who gave rioters reconnaissance tours of the Capitol prior to the riot. Our ballot measure will turn Boebert’s district so blue that she will never step foot in DC again. But there are forces in DC and Denver who prefer the status quo, funding for this effort will rely entirely on the Democratic party’s grassroots.
