Many Americans woke up over the weekend with a familiar, sinking feeling.
An administration of warmongers once again claiming it acts in the name of “freedom” to justify an illegal military operation, kidnapping a foreign head of state, and dragging us toward another endless war with no authorization from Congress and no plan for peace.
Trump’s invasion of Venezuela is a dangerous violation of both international law and our own Constitution. History has taught us exactly where this path leads: human rights abuses, destabilized governments, mass displacement, and untold suffering—all so a powerful few can profit off war and oil.
This is not about defending democracy. It’s about power and self-enrichment.
Since his inauguration, Trump has stretched and abused the power of his office. Republicans have surrendered their constitutional responsibilities, choosing loyalty to one man over the rule of law and the well-being of the American people.
This cannot continue.
Congress has the power—and the obligation—to stop this. That’s why I am pushing for action to reassert Congressional power, including passing Rep. Ilhan Omar’s War Powers Resolution. And that’s why I have called for Trump to be impeached.
I’m standing up because silence is complicity. Because endless war is not inevitable. And because when Congress uses its authority, we can stop this kind of lawless violence before it spreads even further.
